Italian Lotto: prizes, odds and payout rate
The Italian Lotto has no jackpot: every prize type pays a fixed multiple of the stake. The table shows the gross prize for €1 on one wheel when playing exactly the numbers required, the exact probability and the share of the stake paid back on average.
| Prize type | Numbers played | Prize per €1 | Probability | Fair prize | Payout rate |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Estratto | 1 | 11.23 € | 1 : 18.0 | 18.00 € | 62.4 % |
| Ambo | 2 | 250 € | 1 : 400 | 400 € | 62.4 % |
| Terno | 3 | 4,500 € | 1 : 11,748 | 11,748 € | 38.3 % |
| Quaterna | 4 | 120,000 € | 1 : 511,038 | 511,038 € | 23.5 % |
| Cinquina | 5 | 6,000,000 € | 1 : 43,949,268 | 43,949,268 € | 13.7 % |
Gross amounts under the prize table; 8% is withheld on wins above €500. Playing more numbers than required or several wheels changes the amounts. The rarer the prize, the bigger the house edge: the cinquina pays back only about 14% on average.
Every draw is independent. Absences, frequencies and "hot" wheels only describe the past and do not change the odds of the next draw.
